May 2011 Auction Spotlight: General Description: A Cased pair of English saw-handled flintlock duelling pistols by William Parker, London, 1810-15, Overall Length 15 3/8 in.= 39cm., calibre about .55in = 14mm., smooth-bored. Browned octagonal barrels with gold stripes inlaid at breeches, signed (W. Parker, Holborn, London). Locks (held by one side-nail) with reverse (C) cocks, sliding safeties, water-proof pans, rollers on frizzen springs. Single set- and hair-triggers, stock caps, monogram platelets on left sides (engraved R.P.D) and the cross-bolt surrounds are silver. Ramrod of one pistol has detachable tubular head that may be screwed back on upside-down to serve as a powder measure. Accessories: Copper flask with tubular ball compartment and flat flint compartment with sliding cover in bottom, oil bottle, bullet mould, screwdriver, and a cleaning rod with worm and two separate jags. Case lined with typical apple-green fuzzy burlap; on a circular brass plate set into cover, the initials R.P.D.
